As you learned from our initial meeting, there is a great need for rent control in Sacramento. We are excited about the opportunity to partner with Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) — their expertise in building a successful campaign will be invaluable.
At our next meeting, we will discuss our next steps. The bill to repeal Costa-Hawkins, AB-1506, will be moving through the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee, so we will need to discuss letter writing and phone calls to legislators, as well as planning for lobby days at the Capitol.
Between now and the 11th, there is absolutely work that you can start immediately!
Start talking to your friends and neighbors about housing insecurity. Let them know that Sacramento is currently one of the most competitive rental markets in the nation, and with extremely little development happening except at the upper end of market rate, rents will only continue to skyrocket.
Most importantly, let them know that they should come on April 11 to join the fight to maintain affordability for all in Sacramento!
