Rojava refers to an autonomous, predominantly Kurdish region along the northern border of Syria. Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war, the people of Rojava launched a revolution to create a cooperative, egalitarian democracy. This project is defended by the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ). Our former co-chair Michael Israel died in November of 2016 fighting with the Kurds (story here). The purpose of this committee is to study and promote a popular understanding the region’s history and project and support the people of Rojava and international volunteers in the region however we can.
